Livestock Breeding and Poultry
|
Livestock Breeding
|
Livestock breeding is defined as the economic sector that deals with animal breeding and their utilization for production. |
Livestock breeding is one of the oldest human activities and began when humans realized that it was possible to secure the required amount of food to survive by breeding animals instead of killing them. So, humans kept animals limited, they took care of them and killed them only when there was need. |
A livestock breeder takes care of animals in order to trade them, but also all the products derived from them. In the past the majority of livestock breeders were shepherds that were following their animals in open pastures and specialized in one species as sheepherders, goatherds, swineherds or cowmen. |
Poultry Farming
|
As aviculture we define all the ways associated with poultry breeding such as hens, ducks, geese or turkeys in order to produce eggs and meat. |
In the past aviculture was not organized and it was common only in provincial houses and farms in which different species of poultry were bred to get their eggs and meat. Poultry lived with no special care, something that is still happening in villages and especially in underdeveloped countries. |
Nowadays breeders have been greatly organized and large poultry farms have been established in the appropriate places with daily monitoring by professional breeders as well as veterinarians. Everyday life of poultry has become fairly composite and it is not limited to the hygiene and feeding animals but it has been extended to vigilant monitoring for diseases in order to prevent contamination of poultry thus avoiding extinction. |
